🇩🇪 Learn German (Deutsch)
Learn German vocabulary with spaced repetition, dictation and an AI conversation partner. Plain-English meanings and examples, from A1 to C2.
How hard is German?
German is closely related to English, so many words are easy to recognise: “Haus” is house, “Wasser” is water. The US Foreign Service Institute estimates about 900 class hours for English speakers to reach professional working proficiency, which puts it in its second-easiest group of languages.
The hard parts are grammatical gender (der, die, das), four cases, and verb position — the verb often moves to the end of the sentence. Learn every noun together with its article from the very first day.
Tips for learning German
- Always learn a noun with its article: “das Haus”, not just “Haus”.
- Use dictation to train your ear for long compound words such as “Krankenhaus”.
- Notice the verb: in a main clause it sits second, in a subordinate clause it goes last.
Levels
German follows the CEFR scale, A1 to C2. Most German courses and exams (Goethe, TestDaF) are labelled with the same levels, so they map directly to what you see in KaigoAI.

Questions about learning German
How long does it take to learn German?
The US Foreign Service Institute estimates roughly 900 class hours for an English speaker to reach professional working proficiency in German. Reaching a comfortable conversational level takes far less, and a daily habit of 15 minutes adds up quickly.
Is German hard for English speakers?
German is moderately difficult. Vocabulary is often familiar because English and German are related, but grammatical gender, cases and word order take time. Learning each noun with its article from the start makes the biggest difference.
